The impact of raw material costs on the price of RP1226 to J1939 cable

The raw materials for RP1226 to J1939 cables mainly include metal conductors used for conductivity, as well as polymer materials used for producing insulation layers, shielding layers, and sheaths. The impact of raw material costs on their prices is as follows:

Metal conductor material:

Price fluctuations have a significant impact: If copper is used as the conductor, due to its high proportion in the cost of cable raw materials, usually reaching around 70% -80%, copper price fluctuations will directly and significantly affect cable prices. When copper prices rise, the production cost of cables will significantly increase, thereby driving up prices; On the contrary, a decrease in copper prices will lead to a downward trend in cable prices. If aluminum or aluminum alloy is used as a conductor, its price is relatively lower than copper, which can reduce costs to a certain extent. However, the conductivity of aluminum is not as good as copper, which may affect the electrical performance of cables. Generally, in situations where cost is sensitive and electrical performance requirements are not extremely high, conductor materials such as aluminum alloy are selected.

Purity and quality determine cost: high-purity metal conductors, such as oxygen free copper, have better conductivity and lower resistance, which can reduce losses during signal transmission, but the price is relatively high. The use of metal materials with lower purity or recycling may reduce costs, but it may affect the performance and service life of the cable, leading to unstable product quality, and the price of such cables is usually lower.

Polymer materials:

Insulation materials affect performance and price: The performance of insulation materials is crucial for the safe operation and service life of cables. High quality insulation materials, such as cross-linked polyethylene, have good electrical insulation performance, heat resistance, and aging resistance, which can effectively prevent leakage between conductors inside the cable and between conductors and the outside world, ensuring the stability of signal transmission. However, the cost is also high, which will increase the price of the cable. Some insulation materials with poor performance, although cheap, may not meet the safety and performance requirements of cables during long-term use, and are generally used for low-end products with low insulation performance requirements.

Shielding materials ensure signal quality: For RP1226 to J1939 cables with shielding requirements, the selection of shielding layer materials will also affect costs and prices. For example, using materials such as copper tape and aluminum foil as shielding layers can effectively isolate external electromagnetic interference, prevent internal signals from radiating outward, and improve the quality and stability of signal transmission. However, the cost of these materials is relatively high. However, some low-cost shielding materials may not have the same shielding effect as high-quality materials, which can affect the performance of cables in complex electromagnetic environments.

Sheath material affects durability: Sheath material is mainly used to protect the conductors, insulation layers, and shielding layers inside the cable from external environmental influences such as mechanical damage, moisture intrusion, chemical corrosion, etc. High quality sheath materials, such as chloroprene rubber, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), etc., have good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, weather resistance, and flexibility, which can extend the service life of cables, but the price is relatively high. If low-quality sheath materials are used, although it can reduce costs, the durability of the cable will be affected, and problems such as sheath rupture and aging are prone to occur in harsh environments, thereby affecting the overall performance of the cable.
